Project History
At Emmanuel, we're on the brink of an exciting transformation in our kids and youth ministry. We are a congregation just under 200, but this is not reflected in the size of our Kids and Youth ministry. We're eager to foster an environment where we give our best to our children and young people, but also learn from them. After the appointment of a new rector who has prioritised children's and youth ministry in previous churches, we are creating a new vision to see the church grow younger. We are ready to take risks and be bold to see lives changed for the Kingdom of God.
Structure & Vision
Our new vision statement is emerging. But, it will have at its core a desire to reach children and young people with good news of Jesus, so that they might become disciples of Jesus serving his Kingdom right now here on earth. We employ a children's worker, Holly (who is creative and wise), and would like to increase our resources supporting her. We are open to placements that might want to work with her and under her leadership. Our youth ministry is currently run by volunteers and we praying for a bold new leader who is keen to take risks and try new things so we can make a step change in this ministry. Our rector would line manage the youth worker, ensuring the team and ministry get support and are championed in the life of our churches.
Location
Emmanuel church is situated in Compton which is a middles class area in Plymouth. We also have two sister churches who are located on two neighbouring estates, where we envision expanding our youth and children's ministry in the future. The families which attend are a bit more spread out-some coming from the moor and others from Cornwall.
Current Ministry
We currently have one children's worker and a selection of volunteers running out Sunday morning service for the children and teenagers in our congregation. We hold a mid week group once a month for the primary aged children and their friends. We hold a weekly youth group on a Thursday evening. We work in Compton Primary and would like to explore working with other local primary and secondary schools.
