You will also be part of the team who delivers a sports and faith event to over 100 local young people in Swindon from accross 15 churches. This event takes place 5 times per year and is a brand new initiave.
This role is one of three exciting new opportunities being run in partnership with Scripture Union and their Sports Development Team.
Your key role will be to develop sports ministry in a variety of community and church settings. You will be working to encourage and inspire personal, social and spiritual development through sports. Which in turn will give you the awesome opportunity to grow in your faith.
You'll be working within the BIOS SPORTS Project that uses a huge variety of sports and sports tyle games to engage with young people. We have a designated vehicle that is used to ferry equipment around Swindon in, and when we arrive in an area, young people simply come over. We use a blend of language and sport to communicate the gospel to great effect. This weekly sports program is also coupled with sporting residentials, tournaments and holiday clubs to provide an all round sporting approach to the gospel that other methods simply would help with.
As part of the placement you will have: sports related input at each of the SWYM conferences, the opportunity to attend the Scripture Union National Sports Ministry Conference and visit other sports projects. You will also have the opportunity to gain a relevant sports qualification and serve at a sports camp or event.
You will have weekly meetings with your Line Manager as well as regular meetings with your mentor.
