The Trainee Youth Worker will be required to support the work of Oriel Ministries in creating fun, stimulating and safe environments where young people from the ages of 9 – 18 can meet to engage with each other, have fun and be introduced to the Gospel in an atmosphere where they can also invite others. The role includes welcoming young people; delivering positive activities that challenge youth to make a difference i.e., games, a testimony slot; having conversations with youth and identifying issues that affect them so that support can be offered to meet needs; taking part in planning and delivering outreach events; assisting with record keeping and other admin tasks; ensuring child protection procedures are followed and that the safeguarding of youth is paramount.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with young people of all faiths and none, and in a variety of settings. Whilst much of the work of Oriel Ministries takes place at its venue, The Loft, it is also hoped that the Trainee will experience a range of other outreach projects, including Pulse Bus, School’s Work (supporting lessons and assemblies) and other community initiatives.

The Trainee Youth Worker will be directly responsible to the CEO, Chris Uglow: weekly monitoring and feedback sessions will form part of the timetable. He or she will be expected to link into other youth workers in the locality and build relationships across the community

This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check

Accommodation Details

The Trainee will be placed with a host family in Launceston. The retired couple have full DBS clearance and are known to the ministry. The trainee will have their own double room with study facilities. They will be welcome to join their hosts at meal times, if they so wish, and also be free to share social spaces – kitchen, living room, dining room, garden etc. There is a shared family bathroom and an additional WC.

Week Overview

The SWYM Trainee will be required to work a 40 hour week, including 8 hours study. There is an expectation for some evening commitments. It is envisaged that Oriel Ministries will be involved in outreach on occasional Saturdays; the timetable would be re-adjusted to allow for this.
