Description

St Peter’s Church, Winchcombe and WAM Youth are looking for a trainee who is excited about:

  • practically demonstrating Jesus’ love for young people and modelling grace, especially to those who are vulnerable and marginalised
  • offering practical, spiritual, emotional and social support to young people in a semi-rural community
  • working collaboratively with volunteers and staff from churches and organisations within the local community to build relationships and bridges between different groups
  • pioneering new ministries and building on existing relationships to connect young people into Christian Community

Trainees are encouraged to work to their strengths, whilst also developing confidence and abilities in areas of youth work that are new to them.

The purpose of this shared placement is to

  • to support WAM's community youth work groups and sessions and activities (& also other areas of WAM if they wish)
  • to support WAM & St Peter’s in planning and delivering a faith-based youth group, building relationships with young people in the church and wider community and bridging connections between them
  • to support St Peter's in their delivery of Christian outreach and worship for young people in church and at Winchcombe Abbey School and Gretton School
  • to develop and practise skills that will help the trainee in any future work they undertake

Responsibilities may include:

  • supporting the delivery of WAM’s community youth groups
  • organising after school drop-in youth café sessions
  • contributing to assemblies and Christian worship in church and local primary schools
  • supporting the transition programme for new Year 7 students in the local secondary school
  • helping to develop a group for young people who want to explore the Christian faith and encouraging them in asking questions and reflecting on the variety of expressions of Christian faith and worship
  • encouraging and supporting volunteers from local churches and the wider community to get involved in delivering youth activities
  • assisting in the delivery of lessons as part of WAM’s relationships and sex education programme in schools
  • assisting with fundraising events

It is anticipated that the details here may change during the course of the placement, depending on the priorities of WAM and St Peter’s Church as well as the interests and developing skills of the trainee.

Trainees are supported through SWYM Cluster meetings each week, alongside a line manager within WAM Youth who will evaluate the impact of your work and help with planning, and a mentor from St Peter’s Church to help your own personal and spiritual growth.

  • Enthusiasm for working with young people and a willingness to invest in building relationships with them
