Description

We are looking to host and support a trainee youth worker. We can offer a wide range of experiences within the Church and community ministry that will allow you to develop your gifts, skills and initiate ideas within youth work.

You will work alongside teams of paid staff and volunteers who are committed to serving their community.

If you came to join us your week would include the following opportunities alongside your SWYM commitments.

Working with the young people attending Church, taking part in delivering and supporting Sunday activities; with a discipleship intention.

Supporting our Friday evening youth club which attracts 50+ young people - building relationships, supporting and mentoring the young people aged 10-14.

Supporting the Hen House toddler group, engaging with young families.

Supporting the Church cafe outreach -  this gives you an opportunity to meet local residents; Christian and non Christian.

Schools work - supporting this community by working alongside teams in CU, school clubs, mentoring and support where required.

Community projects - you can be involved in exciting new developments within the town with multi agency groups. This includes youth clubs, detached youth work, supporting vulnerable young people -  cafe evenings, mentoring, supporting education out of the school environment.

You will have the opportunity to see other support networks at work - the food bank, CAP ( Churches against poverty)

You will be embraced into the Church family and be part of a house group. We are a very sociable Church, enjoying being in each other’s company and we have lots of social events through the year.

You could have the possible opportunity to visit a school in Zambia, observing and serving a culturally different Christian group of young people.

 

Essential Criteria

A born again Christian seeking to grow spiritually.

Passionate about seeing men, women, boys and girls come to know Jesus their Lord and Saviour, helping them to develop as fully committed disciples.

Be able to build appropriate relationships with young people encouraging them to reach their full potential in Jesus Christ.

Proactive in sharing ideas.

As part of a growing team, you should be a team player, but also at times capable of working alone.

Be willing to become fully integrated into the life of the SCC family engaging in corporate activities, both spiritually and socially.

Have a desire to work with young people in the church, on the fringes and in the community.

Willing to learn and share from and with those you are working with.

Adhere to our statement of faith. ( see Church website)

Preferred Criteria

An interest in any of the following;  music, sport, drama, arts and crafts.

Be skilled in group work.

Accommodation Details

You will be hosted with a warm welcome by one of our Church members, living within a short walk to the town and Church centre.
You will have your own space with en-suite facilities.

Week Overview

Monday: SWYM Cluster, Community youth club.

Tuesday: schools work, detached youth work, mentor time.

Wednesday: support work, Church minister support time, toddlers, house group.

Thursday: schools work , persona study,  community youth work. (tba)

Friday:  personal study, line manager meeting, youth club.

Saturday: day off. ( unless Church activities organised)

Sunday: morning service / youth work . Proposed possible monthly cafe church in the evening.
