Christ Church Downend

Christ Church Downend is a growing evangelical Anglican church on the outskirts of Bristol. Our vision is drawn from John 10:10 with its emphasis on life in all it’s fulness, and our current aspirations are to go deeper with God, reach wider into the community and grow younger through intentional investment in our youth, children’s and families’ ministries. We have a strong history of delivering impactful youth provision through committed volunteer teams.

We have a large team of both staff and volunteers who meet regularly to plan, review, and pray together. Both paid clergy are passionate about youth ministry and seeing young people growing in faith and finding their place in God's church. We are committed to the development of healthy young disciples and to developing leadership skills.

We are seeking to attract a trainee youth worker (16-20 hours placement hours per week) to help grow our youth ministry, further developing the existing provision, and engaging more with unchurched young people through outreach and investment in the local secondary school. This is a key part of Christ Church’s stated aspiration to ‘Grow Younger’.

Our church building and facilities are at the heart of the Downend community 5 miles from the centre of Bristol. We are blessed with a purpose built Youth Hub to the rear of our Parish Hall, which hosts the majority of youth activities. This is well equipped and conducive to effective relational youth ministry. We currently have a volunteer team comprising of 6 church members and a congregation fully supportive of youth and children’s work.

We currently run an activity based youth group on a Thursday evening and a discipleship/teaching session on a Sunday morning for young people age 10-18. We are delivering assemblies and lessons in Downend Secondary School and are exploring the possibility of establishing a Youth House Group. There are also opportunities to link with year 6 at our church school and other schools in the parish.
