Project History

All Saints’ Sidmouth is an orthodox, evangelical church in the centre of Sidmouth. We are a multi-generational Anglican church ranging from babies to people in their 90s.  We have one thing in common, we believe in an extravagant God who loves us unconditionally and is at work changing us, our town and our world. All Saints' aims to offer everyone a warm welcome, to those living in Sidmouth, those visiting Sidmouth, or to anyone wanting to find out more about Jesus and the Christian faith.

We normally have two services on Sundays, the first at 10:30 am and the second  at 4:00 pm. Both services attract a diverse range of people but children and young people are particularly catered for at the 10:30 am service with a range of age appropriate groups. Our monthly 7 O'clock service has a more relaxed and informal style.

Structure & Vision

We are looking for someone who will join our existing staff team and work with them and our large number of willing volunteers, to support existing activities and events within the church and to be ready to explore new and exciting opportunities.

We do not know what new opportunities there will be, but there is great potential to use church and outside local facilities, for example, the beach, local sports clubs, and other local organisations, particularly for boys and men. There may well be a group of new volunteers who could be galvanised into supporting new initiatives as yet not thought of.

We encourage our church family in personal evangelism and regularly hold 'Alpha', 'Christianity Explored' and similar courses. Home groups meet regularly and play a vital part in the encouragement and spiritual growth of the lives of their members.

Location

The placement will be based in the church office of All Saints' Church, Sidmouth.

Sidmouth is a town in East Devon with a population of about 15,000. It is a popular tourist destination and a gateway to the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site. As well as a popular retirement destination, there are many families with children attending local schools and college.

Sidmouth College takes children aged between 11 and 18 from as far afield as Exmouth and Exeter, with approximately 900 on the roll.

There is one state junior school, which takes children from between the ages of 8 and 11, and a primary school. Sidmouth Primary School follows the Devon Agreed Syllabus for RE and Collective Worship. All children have an act of collective worship every day which has a strong Christian basis. The primary school has close links with the local churches and local clergy visit on a very regular basis.

Current Ministry

We currently employ a full-time Children's and Youth Minister as a member of our staff team. The current post holder has been with us for the past 12 years. During that time, the ministry amongst children, youth and families has developed and expanded, and now includes various age groups during Sunday morning services, youth groups on Sunday evenings, monthly Messy Church, two weekly parent & toddler groups, various drop-in sessions, ad-hoc parenting and ante-natal courses and participation in one-off events, e.g. local swimathon and SPREE.

The contribution made by volunteers is crucial to all the ministries at All Saints', not least to those ministries involving children, youth and families. Whilst the Children's and Youth Minister is ultimately responsible, they are supported by teams of volunteers who make each event and session happen in a way which is safe, enjoyable and beneficial to those who attend.
