St Matthias, Plymouth

St Matts Church Plymouth is a City Centre Resource Church in partnership with Holy Trinity Brompton, London, with a vision to play its part in the Evangelisation of Plymouth and the South West, the Revitalisation of the Church and the Transformation of society. St Matts has been running in its current form for 6 years. We have an established Youth group on a Monday evening and a Sunday Youth group for Sunday mornings. We also have a well attended toddler group on a Thursday morning and a thriving Sunday school for 2-11 year olds.

At St. Matt’s we believe that Children are a fundamental part of the family of God. They are the Church of the future, capable of hearing from God and making a difference in this World.

The vision of Kids Church & Youth is to love and serve the children & Young people at St Matts to enable them to become wholehearted followers of Jesus Christ. Which is based on this scripture: ‘Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.’ (Proverbs 22:6) We believe in Faith, Fun & Friendship.

We provide ‘Youth’ on a Sunday morning during The Ten. This is a
place to play games, hear about each other’s difficulties and wins and to grow in relationship with God. We have started using Youth for Christ for our curriculum exploring various different topics such as mental health and what it means to be Christ-like.

Monday evenings, called ‘Fusion’ is our youth club. This continues our session from Sunday with lighter activities and more competitive and active games. The emphasis is more on fellowship and making connections.

We have a staff team of a Vicar (Newly appointed due to arrive in February), Executive Director, Church Co-ordinator, Curate, Kids & Youth Pastor and Production co-ordinator. We also have a church leadership team (PCC).

Plymouth is a large city on the sea, with train links and is the main link to places such as Exeter and Cornwall.

In our Kids Church we have three groups ranging from 18 months to 11 years old that meet on a Sunday at the TEN service. We also have a Creche room where parents of babies and toddlers who are not old enough for Kids Church yet can have a space to play and have the service Live streamed into the room. We have a great team of 35 dedicated and caring volunteers. Each age group is led by our experienced Room Leaders and have their own schedules and curriculums tailored to the educational and developmental level of the children. We have also recently started a one-to-one team for any children with additional needs.

For Youth we currently have 2 groups running. Our Sunday morning group and our Monday evening group, Fusion. Our Youth leaders are encouraged to enable the young people to go deeper in their faith. We value a safe and honest space for our young people to explore faith and get answers to their deep questions.
