Description
This community-based people-facing role aims to help young people towards making more empowering life decisions to positively change their outcomes and thrive at every stage of their lives. Within the Safer Travel Partnership pioneered by Torbay United CIO and Stagecoach, a specific focus of this role is to minimise instances of anti-social behaviour (ASB) on public transport and at bus stations within Torbay, to create a safer environment for young people travelling for education, skills development, employment, or leisure and to promote responsible and respectful behaviour, fostering a culture of safety across Torbay's public transport network. Within a job-share context, each post-holder will be working in a team of other ministers and youth workers, with plenty of time to experience work diversity too within their attached local church setting.
Tasks and responsibilities include: building and nurturing relationships with young people (and their families as applicable); helping young people communicate their needs, plans and expectations; empowering young people to become active citizens; creating positive change by inspiring young people to take ambitious steps to shape their future ... developing positive relationships with multiple organisations to identify and be positioned to signpost young people to quality support and resources, opportunities and activities, including educational and work-focused opportunities ... implementing measures to minimise instances of anti-social behaviour on public transport and at bus stations, including assisting with end-of-school day bus boarding ... enhancing the safety and confidence of young people travelling for various purposes, including presence at key bus-stops at critical times during the day ... working closely with schools to educate and sensitise students about expected behaviour on buses and public transport, and to manage communication plans for parents and guardians ... working closely with public transport drivers and security teams ... building, encouraging, equipping and supporting a network of volunteers into team roles ... providing research data to inform and strengthen the project at a strategic level through the management and regular presentation of operational data to ensure transparency and joined-up working; creating and implementing measures to record the success of the project and identify areas to strengthen ... maintaining reporting on mobile apps as directed, and regularly drafting/posting articles and social media posts that promote the awareness of the project and its challenges and successes.
Essential Criteria

- safeguarding and Health and Safety policies and practices in the workplace, and security considerations.
- how to support volunteers
- openness to welcome people from all backgrounds
- time management and organisational skills.
Committed individual who is flexible and willing to go the extra mile when required.
Preferred Criteria
Willing to take on First Aid training.
Willing to learn and take on appropriate training especially in
- how to communicate with different audiences. Ideally, experience supporting vulnerable people with complex needs from a wide variety of backgrounds.
- how to identify cause-and-effect relationships and take a solution-focussed approach.
- discretion and judgement, and experience of dealing with sensitive information.
- growing to be a pro-active person and learn self-motivation
- how to be part of a team
- growing in own initiative, interpersonal skills along with developing relationships
