Job Description
- To champion Heatree’s vision for children and young people to encounter God through adventure
- To play a hands-on role across the centre, supporting all departments in the delivery of high-quality outdoor adventure residentials and responding flexibly to the need of a busy, dynamic programme
- To build meaningful relationships with children and young people, creating safe and engaging spaces where they can explore Christianity and their relationship with God
Main Duties
- To deliver age-appropriate and experience-related Christian content
- To support the daily work of a busy residential centre, such as catering, housekeeping and maintenance
- To assist and lead outdoor education sessions with children and young people
- To positively represent Heatree by always demonstrating responsible behaviour
- To provide consistently high levels of customer service
- To follow standard operating procedures, policies and risk assessments
- To report to the Volunteer Manager for time off and sickness
Support and Training
Heatree asks Venture Beyond volunteers to fundraise £5000 to contribute towards accommodation, living costs, activity-specific training and external qualification costs. In return, you will gain hands-on experience and the opportunity to achieve a range of nationally recognised qualifications that develop and strengthen your skills, as you explore the gifting and calling God has for your life.
We do not expect you to do it alone – our team will support you to set up your fundraising, offering guidance, resources and practical advice on how to do it successfully.
To enable the Venture Beyond volunteer to fulfil the main duties listed above, Heatree Activity Centre will provide support and training in the following areas:
- ITC Certificate in Outdoor First Aid at SCQF Level 6

- Comprehensive in-house training house training to deliver outdoor activities safely and effectively
- Support in the delivery of engaging, age-appropriate Christian content, tailored to the experience and need of the children and young people
Venture Beyond volunteers will receive practical, outdoor-based ministry training and resources to develop skills in group leadership, faith-based teaching, and effective time management. With the guidance and support of SWYM, Venture Beyond volunteers will receive high-quality, relevant training that equips them for the long term, while building meaningful relationships and creating lasting memories along the way.

Accommodation Details
Shared on-site accommodation is provided in a staff house with other volunteers, including a kitchen, lounge/diner, individual bedrooms, and two bathrooms.
Set in the heart of East Dartmoor, Heatree Activity Centre is surrounded by open moorland with direct access to stunning walks, mountain biking routes, and bouldering on nearby tors. It is a true retreat from busy town life, offering space to immerse yourself in God’s creation.
Please note, public transport is limited and the nearest town is 15 minutes away by car
