Project History

City Community Church (CCC) is a welcoming, multigenerational church that meets in a local primary school in Heavitree, Exeter. As a family church we're passionate about sharing life together, being transformed to be more like Jesus and making a difference to our local community.

As a growing church, we hold firmly to important values such as being welcoming and hospitable, promoting spiritual growth in a nurturing environment, finding calling and challenging each other to step out in mission, growing in prayer and creativity, deepening our biblical understanding and our experience of the Holy Spirit.

Our youth work has developed over many years, with both volunteers and paid staff. A third of the church is under 18 so it's an exciting moment of potential for us as a community.

As a SWYM trainee you would be involved in our Sunday and mid week (after school) youth work, working with volunteers and our youth work co-ordinator.

Structure & Vision

We are an independent church who connect closely with the  24/7 prayer community network. We have a leadership team of 3, responsible for the vision of the church, but they meet regularly with a larger 'leadership community' group. We're informal, approachable and hold a 'flat' style of leadership.

We have weekly small groups but also other gatherings across the calendar which easily allow friends and neighbours to participate in our community and get to know us a bit better. We're active in our local community - whether groups in the park cafe, homeless drop ins, refugee kitchens, mums and tots, schools work - any excuse really!

Our vision - to connect (with each other and those beyond), find community and encounter Christ. We want to live questionable lives within our context so that those spiritually searching might find us helpful conversation partners.

Location

We meet each Sunday 10:30am at St Michael's Primary School, (except the last Sunday - when we meet in small groups around the city). We're passionate about our local community - Heavitree, a lovely suburb of Exeter (only a 20 min walk from centre of city) - it's a diverse community of families, the elderly, students, rich and poor.

The local park and hub cafe is a centre of activity within the community and we regularly partner with them to connect with people - whether it's carols by candlelight at Christmas, the annual Fun Day, or a youth litter pick - there's a lot going on and we want to be involved.

Current Ministry

Our youth group are a diverse, fun and lively bunch who are passionate about their faith and keep inviting their friends to church! We're running to catch up! There's a core group of 9 with a wide fringe, aging from 11-18 who are supported by an amazing team of volunteers of all ages and stages from across the church. Depending on their age, each Sunday they'll have a session during the weekly service and an evening discipleship group each fortnight. Half termly socials are also great fun and an easy invite for school friends.

We have regular inter-generational services where we worship all together as a family, led by our children and families worker.

As a SWYM worker with us you'd also be able to join in with a wide range of activities beyond church including: schools work, with both ICE teams (Ice Trust | Bringing Faith to Life) and Acorn (Exeter – Acorn Alternative Provision), community outreach through afterschool clubs, social media enterprise... with further opportunities available with partners.

As a growing, enterprising and missionally minded community, we're open to creative and new ways to engage with our neighbours - we're excited about what the future holds!
