Project History
Totnes United Free Church is a vibrant, spirit-filled church made up of all ages, from toddlers to people in their 90s. We love the family feel present at the church and we have a reputation for being a really welcoming church. Our monthly all age celebration is a great time of all these ages coming together to worship and learn from God, and this is followed by a delicious shared lunch.
The church building sits right on the high street and so is a fantastic location, especially with the front courtyard. Many people walking past pop in, especially on a Thursday when the church cafe (Living Room) is running. It's a church that isn't afraid to give things a go, and do things creatively which is an exciting place to be.
The church is passionate about making a positive impact on our local community, reflecting the love and hope of Jesus with those we live and work alongside. Whilst at the same time, we also support several overseas missionaries as they take the Good News to all nations.
The church is a member of the Baptist Union of Great Britain, has been around for almost 150 years and we hope, many more years to come!
Structure & Vision
The church is currently pastored by Rev Emily Twigg, along with a team of trustees who are supported by a part-time operations co-ordinator. Everything else in the church is run and led by our fabulous, servant-hearted church members who give generously of their time and money.
We long to be the hands of Jesus in Totnes, bringing his light, hope, truth and love to all, and welcoming people into community and family.
Location
Totnes is amazing! Jokingly said to be twinned with Narnia, Totnes is a vibrant, creative, buzzing market town with a passion for supporting local and a real openess to spirituality. There is a real sense of community in the town, and people love living here!
The town prides itself on having mostly independent shops, as well as an independent cinema, a leisure centre, its famous weekly market, a thriving music scene and an abundance of sports/arts/music clubs on offer.
Totnes has the beautiful river Dart flowing through it, and is located in area of outstanding natural beauty, half way between Dartmoor and the Torbay coastline.
It is also half way between Exeter and Plymouth, both 40mins by car, with direct rail and bus links to both. You can also get to and from Torbay easily too.
All in all it's a fabulous place to be!
