Description
Context - St Matts Plymouth is a City Centre Resource Church in partnership with Holy Trinity Brompton, London, with a vision to play its part in the Evangelisation of Plymouth and the South West, the Revitalisation of the Church and the Transformation of society.
Role - The Role of the Kids & Youth Intern is to build and grow the church’s ministry to children and young people enabling each child and young person to become a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ.
Role description -
- Kids & Youth -
- Assist our Kids & Youth Pastor, the volunteer group Leaders and wider volunteer team to effectively run our Kids & Youth groups.
- Support, encourage, train and nurture the current Leaders and Helpers.
- Identify, recruit, train, and nurture new Leaders & Helpers.
- Implement an engaging ministry program of discipleship, outreach and social events.
- Deliver high quality, inspiring, creative and fun Christian teaching and activity programs across all groups and effective behavior management.
- Ensure resources and rooms are kept in good order, up to date and refreshed.
- To observe all groups and provide effective support, training and feedback.
- Be a pastoral point of contact for the children, youth, parents and families.
- Help lead our Stay and play group, Mini Matts. Engaging with parents and carers that attend in support and providing a safe and stimulating environment for their under 5 year old to play.
- Adhere to policy and procedures, ensuring that volunteers, leaders and helpers are properly informed of these.
- Engage in our vision for Faith, Fun & Friendship by loving and serving the children and young people at St Matts to enable them to become wholehearted followers of Jesus Christ. This is based on this scripture: ‘Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.’ (Proverbs 22:6)
- Special Events
- Oversee and implement kids & youth work and involvement at other church events and activities including Christmas, Easter, Light Party, Spree SW & Creation fest.
- Local Schools
- Develop fruitful links with local schools and charities etc. Taking assemblies/RE lessons/hosting whole school services and visits.
- Safeguarding
- Work with the safeguarding officer to oversee and implement all the church’s safeguarding policies and procedures in line with the Diocese of Exeter.
Essential Criteria
- A committed Christian
- An awareness of the Bible and discipleship
- An awareness of safeguarding (Training will be provided)
- Willingness to work within a team
- Basic IT skills
- Ability to follow policies
- Reliable and trustworthy
- A willingness to work independently and has good organisational skills
Preferred Criteria
- Experience in working with children or young people (voluntary or work experience)
- Leadership experience
- Experience of Churchsuite
- Experience of schools work
- Social media and photography skills
- Pastoral care experience
Accommodation Details
There are various options available depending on the candidates personal circumstances. Depending on this, St Matts can cover a monthly budget of up to £550 but this will be decided on the needs of the candidate.
