Kids & Youth Intern

Context - St Matts Plymouth is a City Centre Resource Church in partnership with Holy Trinity Brompton, London, with a vision to play its part in the Evangelisation of Plymouth and the South West, the Revitalisation of the Church and the Transformation of society. 

Role - The Role of the Kids & Youth Intern is to build and grow the church’s ministry to children and young people enabling each child and young person to become a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ.

Role description - 

• Kids & Youth

1. Assist our Kids & Youth Pastor, the volunteer group Leaders and wider volunteer team to effectively run our Kids & Youth groups. 
2. Support, encourage, train and nurture the current Leaders and Helpers. 
3. Identify, recruit, train, and nurture new Leaders & Helpers. 
4. Implement an engaging ministry program of discipleship, outreach and social events.
5. Deliver high quality, inspiring, creative and fun Christian teaching and activity programs across all groups and effective behavior management. 
6. Ensure resources and rooms are kept in good order, up to date and refreshed. 
7. To observe all groups and provide effective support, training and feedback.
8. Be a pastoral point of contact for the children, youth, parents and families.
9. Adhere to policy and procedures, ensuring that volunteers, leaders and helpers are properly informed of these. 
10. Help lead our Stay and play group Mini Matts. Engaging with parents and carers that attend in support and providing a safe and stimulating environment for their under 5 year old to play.
11. Engage in our vision for Faith, Fun & Friendship by loving and serving the children and young people at St Matts to enable them to become wholehearted followers of Jesus Christ. This is based on this scripture: ‘Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.’ (Proverbs 22:6)

•  Special Events

1. Oversee and implement Kids & Youth work and involvement at other church events and activities including Christmas, Easter, Light Parties, Ignite worship nights, Spree SW & Creation fest.

• Local Schools

1. Develop fruitful links with local schools and charities etc. Taking assemblies/RE lessons/hosting whole school services and visits.
2. Assist in planning and implementing Christian Union at Plymouth High School for Girls.
3. Help cultivate an ongoing link with Mount Street primary school.

• Safeguarding 

1. Work with the Kids & Youth Pastor and  safeguarding officer to oversee and implement all the church’s safeguarding policies and procedures in line with the Diocese of Exeter.

• Willingness to work within a team
• Basic IT skills
• Ability to follow policies
• Reliable and trustworthy
• A willingness to work independently and has good organisational skills

• Experience in working with children or young people (voluntary or work experience)
• Leadership experience
• Experience of Churchsuite
• Experience of schools work
• Social media and photography skills
• Pastoral care experience

There are various options available depending on the candidates personal circumstances.

Monday: Morning - Cluster, Afternoon - Free, Evening - Study

Tuesday: Morning - Line manager/Mentor meeting, Afternoon - Admin, Evening - Free/Small group

Wednesday: Morning - Staff meeting, Afternoon - Preparation, Evening - Free/Small group

Thursday: Morning - Toddler group, Afternoon - Schools work, Evening - Youth group

Friday: Morning - Study, Afternoon - Free, Evening - Free

Saturday: Day off

Sunday Morning - Kids & Youth on Sunday, Afternoon - Free, Evening - Church service
