Description
The Trainee Youthworker will join the illuminateStroud team, which works to inspire and equip Christian young people as culture changers in their schools and communities, and enable all young people to have opportunities to explore the Gospel and Christian faith in relevant and accessible ways. They act as a link between young people and local churches.
illuminateStroud currently works with Churches Together in Stroud and Dursley, delivering discipleship groups, outreach, schoolswork, and leadership development opportunities for young people.
The Trainees Youthworker will experience a variety of different youth work settings and opportunities, and work with leaders and young people from different churches, backgrounds and theologies.
Specific Tasks will include:
- Help deliver the vision of illuminate - inspiring and equipping Christian young people as culture changers in their schools and communities
- Ensure young people have opportunities to explore the Gospel and Christian faith in relevant and accessible ways
- Joining the leadership teams of:
- Fusion Cafe - youth led outreach
- Sunday Morning Tab Youth Sessions
- Lunchtime secondary schools groups
- Prayer Spaces in Schools
- Delivering sessions in RE lessons
- School Assemblies
- Youth Worship Nights
- Residentials
- Church Ministry (Dursley Tab)
- Open Access youthwork (with The Door's Community Youthworkers)
- There will also be ample opportunity to explore and develop key skills such as
- Advocacy for young people
- Strategic Planning
- Session Planning
- 1-1 Mentoring
- Developing Young Leaders
- Use of Social Media
- Public Speaking
- Recording sessions, safeguarding & referrals
- The Trainee will also have access to

Essential Criteria
- Self-motivated and willing to take initiative, with a sense of adventure and a willingness to try new things
- Energy and enthusiasm for communicating the Christian Gospel
- Ability to relate to adults, young people and stakeholders from a range of local and church organisations
- Organisation, administration and presentation skills
Preferred Criteria
- Experience of working with Christian and not-yet Christian young people outside of traditional church settings
- Full Driving Licence (and own transport)
