Key Responsibilities
Midweek Youth Outreach (with support from the Youth Minister)
Lead and coordinate midweek outreach groups for young people.
Help create a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment for all attendees.
Support the Youth Minister in planning and delivering sessions that encourage faith exploration and community.

School Ministry & Mentoring
Use your gifts to serve local secondary and primary schools through a structured mentoring scheme for both groups
and individuals.
Work alongside the Youth Minister to deliver mentoring that supports wellbeing, confidence, and spiritual growth.
Assist with additional school ministry activities, including Christian Unions and any outreach opportunities requested by
the schools.
Be part of the team running Youth Alpha and Post‑Alpha sessions in local schools.

Youth Discipleship & Pastoral Support
Join the mentoring team to support teenagers in their faith through 1‑to‑1 discipleship.
Help young people explore Scripture, ask questions, and grow in confidence as followers of Jesus.
Support the Youth Minister in planning termly teaching themes for Sunday morning youth Bible study groups.

Events & Retreats
Assist in the planning and delivery of the annual youth retreat for 11–18s.
Help lead teams, organise activities, and contribute to creating a spiritually rich and memorable experience.

Volunteer Development
Oversee and lead volunteer teams with the support of the Youth Minister.
Help develop volunteers' skills, confidence, and spiritual growth in youth ministry.

Teamwork & Church Life
Work closely with the Youth Minister, supporting their initiatives and contributing to the youth ministry’s wider vision.
Collaborate with the church staff team to help fulfil St Michael’s vision of “living to make a difference” and our strategy of
discipleship, outreach, and serving the community.

Other Expectations
Become a fully engaged member of St Michael’s Church, participating in Sunday worship and, if possible, joining a Life
Group for support and spiritual growth.
Attend weekly staff meetings and join the staff team for regular prayer and worship.
Uphold and enforce St Michael’s safeguarding policy in all youth work and school‑based activities.
Represent St Michael’s positively in all interactions with young people, families, schools, and the wider community

Essential Criteria

ESSENTIAL
You will have a willingness to:

  • A love for young people and a desire for young people to love Jesus too
  • an understanding of, and a commitment to follow the ethos and values of St Michael’s Church
  • an interest in meeting new people and forging relationships with young people
  • a willingness to work as part of a team
  • an ability to be self-motivated to work independently when required
  • good verbal, organisation, listening and communication skills
  • a willingness to work hours in a flexible way, including occasional evenings and weekends to meet the requirements of the job
  • a willingness to learn how to use IT to store data, record information and communicate effectively
  • a professional approach to the role, including being punctual and dressing appropriately

Preferred Criteria

DESIRABLE
We would like:

  • a willingness to lead a team
  • someone who would be willing to undertake training, where relevant
  • someone who has the ability to make informed decisions when required
  • Ability to drive (not crucial)
  • Experience with social media
  • Available for the week commencing August 10 for the church summer club to meet team, students and young people

Accommodation Details

Accomodation with a church family unless not needed or wanted

Week Overview

Monday would be your days for Cluster and personal time, Tuesday would be in the local secondary school with mentoring two groups of six young people and an evening of Youth Alpha, Wednesday is team and staff meetings, and every other week in the Christian union in the secondary school. As well as the occasional assembly. Friday would be based in the Youth Office, prepping & planning  & Sunday would be 10:30 celebration service Youth session, and an evening 4:30 bible study with youth into a 6:30 evening service. As well as attending meetings and being part of the church life

Thursday would be your study day or personal time.

Saturday is your day off; use it as you please. If there is anything that you are needed for on a Saturday during the year, such as The Noise, you will be asked to take another day off during that week or the week after
