Description

This placement is primarily about helping to shape and grow a thriving ministry with your gifts and allowing it to adapt as you grow in confidence. There is a lot of opportunity to pioneer a new thing, reach into local schools and work alongside what is already taking place.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a heart for mission to build on strong foundations rather than start from scratch.

You will join a supportive team consisting of the Team Rector, Team Vicar, administrator, lay leaders and volunteers who are passionate about seeing children, young people and families encounter Jesus and become part of the life of the Church.

Rather than simply running existing programmes, you will help shape the next stage of ministry across the Mission Community, developing new opportunities while strengthening those already established.

Key Responsibilities

Working alongside the clergy, volunteers and local schools, you will:

  • Develop meaningful relationships with children, young people and families.
  • Lead and support the weekly PopUp Café and help develop discipleship opportunities arising from it.
  • Grow ministry within local primary and secondary schools through assemblies, clubs, mentoring and pastoral presence.
  • Help plan and lead all-age worship, holiday clubs and outreach events.
  • Encourage young people to explore faith and become part of the worshipping life of the Church.
  • Recruit, equip and encourage volunteers.
  • Build positive relationships with parents, schools and community organisations.
  • Identify new opportunities for mission across our eight churches.
  • Participate in the wider life and worship of the Mission Community.

Why Join Us?

This is a rare opportunity to join a church community where children's and youth ministry is already valued, supported and funded.

You will be joining at a time when:

  • ministry is growing and well resourced;
  • schools are actively asking for greater partnership;
  • volunteers are engaged and enthusiastic;
  • there is strong financial commitment to children's and youth work;
  • there is freedom to innovate, experiment and pioneer new expressions of church.
    We are praying for someone who will help us continue to see children, young people and families discover the love of Christ and become part of flourishing Christian communities across the Haldon Mission Community.

Essential Criteria

  • Has a living Christian faith and a desire to share it naturally with others.
  • Enjoys building relationships with children, young people and families.
  • Is creative, enthusiastic and willing to pioneer new ideas.
  • Can work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Is willing to learn how to communicate with people of all ages.
  • Can organise, plan and prioritise effectively.
  • Is flexible and willing to work across different churches and communities.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and good practice.

Preferred Criteria

A driving licence and access to transport would be helpful due to the rural nature of parts of the benefice, although travel between many locations is possible by bicycle or public transport.

Suitable housing can be found with a host, preferably in Teignmouth for good transport links to Exeter and surrounding area.
