Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Helping to lead and co-ordinate our Sunday morning children's groups (Crèche, Stepping Stones, Bubbles and Kidz Club) with help and encouragement from the Children's and Families Minister
  • Helping to lead and co-ordinate our mid-week parent and toddler groups and our monthly Messy Church with help and encouragement from the Children's and Families Minister
  • Access to involvement with our local primary school and pre-school and nursery through Reserve RE sessions, Acts of Worship and Bring It To Life (Open The Book) drama
  • Supporting the Children's and Families Minister and Youth Minister in the delivering of Year 6 Alpha Course at the Primary School and Year 6 leavers day activities
  • Involved in serving at our August Summer Club and taking our Year 6 children and youth away to SPREE South West

Children’s Discipleship and Pastoral Support

  • Demonstrating the 5 key tools from Parenting for Faith to encourage children to connect with God at home as well as encouraging parents as they show their children a vibrant two-way relationship with God in the everyday moments of life.
  • Help Children explore and fall in love with The Bible by creating a culture of asking questions and grow in confidence as a follower of Jesus.

Volunteer Development

  • Help with co-ordination and encouragement of our volunteer teams with support from Children and Families Minister.
  • Be a positive role model for our teenage young leaders as they develop their gifts and skills in serving.

Team Work & Church Life

  • Work closely with the Children and Families Minister by supporting their initiatives and being a key player and contributor to the wider Children’s Ministry vision.
  • Work alongside the Church staff team on a day to day basis, helping to fulfil our vision of "living to make a difference by being a Christian heart in the centre of our communities" and the continuous outworking of the Church strategy of "Learning and Growing Together, Sharing Jesus Together and Serving Together".

Other Expectations

  • Become a fully engaged member of St Michael's Church, participating in Sunday worship and if possible join a Lifegroup or Young Adults ministry for support and growth.
  • Work alongside the Church staff team on a day to day basis, helping to fulfil our vision of "living to make a difference by being a Christian heart in the centre of our communities" and the continuous outworking of the Church strategy of "Learning and Growing Together, Sharing Jesus Together and Serving Together".
  • Meet for regular prayer and worship with staff team at weekly staff meetings.
  • Meet weekly with line manager to pray, be encouraged and check progress, work through any concerns and review diaries.
  • Uphold and enforce St Michael's safeguarding policies at all times when working with Children and Families at both Church and at School.
  • A commitment to networking opportunities across the region and UK (SWYM, Mullers Y & C Network, Parenting for Faith).

Essential Criteria

Candidates will need to have:

  • A love for Children and their Families with a desire to see them know and love Jesus and a passion to see them become God connected kids and a personal, active and growing faith in Jesus Christ.
  • A character of integrity, worthy of being a Christian role-model to others
  • Ability to work as part of a bigger team
  • A mindset that is open to teaching, challenge and change
  • A positive can-do attitude to work, ministry and people
  • Willingness to work hours in a flexible way, including occasional evenings and Saturday’s to meet the requirements of the role
  • A professional approach to the role which includes being punctual and dressing appropriately for work.
  • A willingness to meet others in the profession across Bristol and South West for networking, support, learning and resourcing

Preferred Criteria

We welcome candidates who have:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent IT skills including experience of managing diaries e.g Google Calendar
  • Previous experience of organising and leading Children’s groups in a Church setting
  • Eager to learn new skills and willingness to ask questions if unsure
  • Committed to networking, meeting and learning from other children's ministry workers across Bristol and the South West

Accommodation Details

Accomodation will be provided with a host family from within the church unless not needed or wanted

Week Overview

Monday:  Cluster and Bumps and Babies (Weekly in Term Time)

Tuesday: Day Off or School Reserve RE (Termly)

Wednesday: Staff Meeting, School Assemblies, Mentoring (Weekly in Term Time), Messy Church (Once a Month)

Thursday: Beehive Parent and Toddler Group (Weekly in Term Time), Sunday Prep Time

Friday: Saplings Toddler Group (Weekly in Term Time), Assignment Writing or Prep Time

Saturday: Day Off

Sunday: Children's Ministry Groups at Ten Thirty Celebration, Attend our Six Thirty Worship Service

(These groups and times are subject to change and can be discussed, with occasional Saturday events happening, time can be taken off in lieu or days swapped).
