We are seeking an illuminate trainee youth worker that will work primarily alongside the illuminate coordinator and youthwork manager to support the delivery of the illuminate project in the Stroud District. This will include but is not limited to:
- Delivery of 2 Christian outreach youth clubs
- Supporting one local church's discipleship group
- Delivery of Christian Union lunchtime clubs
- Delivery of RS lessons & prayer spaces
- Trips to Christian events
In addition, The Door feels that it is critical that any trainee youth worker receives a holistic experience of the whole field of youth work and thus, the trainee youth worker will also have a part in
- Delivery of one open access community youth work session
- Participate in local community events and stakeholder meetings
- An opportunity to mentor a young person
- Shadowing the general administration of the work
Illuminate's vision has five main goals:
- To evangelise young people; to bring them to a relationship with Jesus and provide space for curious young people to explore their spirituality
- To provide chaplaincy and religious educational support to local secondary schools
- To encourage those with a pre-existing faith to deepen and extend it,
- to help young people discover and apply their God-given skills, gifts and talents and equip them to speak about their faith and
- engage in social activity in their local communities as a Christian catalyst for change.
Essential Criteria

- Having a sense of adventure and willingness to try new things
- A good role model who is resilient, teachable, and a good team player
- Able to build trusting relationships with both young people and adults.
- Able to be adaptable and react well to awkward situations
- Able to work with and give dignity to people from different traditions/backgrounds/perspectives.
Preferred Criteria
- Full driving licence and have access to a vehicle
- Good IT skills, including the use of online streaming, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and social media
- Good listening skills
- Self-motivated and able to work unsupervised

Accommodation will be provided by St Matthews church Stroud.
Week Overview
A typical week might look like this, but it could be subject to change. Occassional one-off events may happen to disturb this pattern or cause some weekend work, where time off in lieu would be naturally given.
