Project History

Connect is an ecumenical project supported by many local churches in Mid Devon - we've been operating for over 20 years. The Connect team of trainees and local church youth workers serves in four community colleges across Crediton, Chulmleigh, Holsworthy and Okehampton, as well as involvement in a number of local youth work projects.

Structure & Vision

Connect is a registered charity (1126303) and is managed through a board of trustees, with local support groups in each of the four areas.

Our vision is to: demonstrate Christ's love for young people; offer support on behalf of Mid Devon's churches to each community college in developing young people mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually and socially; encourage young people to work out, own and stand for their Christian faith among their peers, in their school and community.

Location

Trainees are based in Crediton (the catchment area for Queen Elizabeth's School), but also work with trainees and local church youth workers over the whole Connect project area, including Chumleigh, Holsworthy and Okehampton.

Current Ministry

The majority of a trainee's time is spent in school; running clubs, leading assemblies, offering pastoral support and helping in lessons. Trainees also provide support for several local church youth clubs.

Trainees should also encourage young people to attend camps and events (including those organised by SWYM and DCYC).

There are regular Connect team meetings for discussion and planning. The SWYM area coordinator supports trainees through a weekly cluster meeting and regular liaison with your line manager. Trainees meet regularly with their Connect line manager to discuss and plan their work and to evaluate its impact. They are also provided with a mentor who will help with personal and spiritual development.
