Project History
South Street is a Free and independent church in the Evangelical Tradition. We are self governing and self supporting. We belong to the Evangelical Alliance and support the Churches Together Group in Braunton. We are also members of Partnership, a loose national affiliation of Evangelical churches with a background similar to our own. We have in our congregation Christians who come from a variety of church traditions and we warmly welcome into our church services those who are seeking God but as yet have no certain personal faith. Our aim is to introduce people to Jesus Christ and to encourage each other in our Christian discipleship. We are a growing church with a special place for families and in our services all age groups are represented. The church employed a youth worker in 2011 as the church was growing with many families with children and young people. The youth worker was involved in all aspects of the youth and children’s work along with Sunday school teachers and volunteers. He has now moved on and the church wishes to continue the good work started with the youth and young people of the church, alongside a team of volunteers.
Structure & Vision
Our vision is for young people to build on their foundations in the Lord Jesus Christ, their Biblical Knowledge and to reach other young people in Braunton and the surrounding area. We want to help young people develop biblical values in the everchanging world that they face.
Location
Braunton is a large village of around 7,500 people and a popular holiday destination in North Devon. Situated in the centre of an area of outstanding national beauty and just 10 minutes from 3 golden beaches, ideal for surfing, water sports and building sand castles! It is also less than 15 minutes from Barnstaple town with even more shopping and facilities. Our original church building is located in South Street in the village however, we have outgrown that building, so our Sunday morning services are held at at Christ Church, Braunton a few minutes down the road. The two lunchtime CU sessions are based at Braunton Secondary Academy in the centre of the village.
Current Ministry
There are 60 children who attend church and approx. 26 of these are over 10 years old. There are various activities for young people planned throughout the week. These included Bible studies, Christian Union in a local Secondary Academy, Youth camps and Christian activities in the local area.
