Description

Are you passionate about Jesus and eager to see Children’s and Young People’s lives changed through the gospel? An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and energetic individual to join the team at Haven church in Gorran Haven as a trainee Youth and Children’s worker through the training of SWYM (South West Youth Ministries) for 12 months beginning in September 2025. Haven Church is set in a small Cornish fishing village 11 miles from St Austell. Haven Church is numerically small in number, but it has a faithful congregation and has the potential for the youth and children's work to grow. The church is also part of the FIEC churches.

We are looking for an individual to become a part of the Church family at Haven Church and to help to grow the existing Youth and Children’s work, as well as being part of the team in setting up new initiatives for Children and Young people.

The position could include learning to share in the preaching/ teaching ministry of the Church and will primarily be based at Haven Church but could be extended to the local schools in the area. The position could also include a weeks work within our Church plant in Madeira.

Training will be delivered by SWYM and time will be allowed to attend SWYM conferences 6 times a year as well as Cluster groups each week. The Trainee will be allocated a line manager who will meet with the individual weekly to go through their timetable and plan for upcoming events and activities. The individual will also be given a mentor who will pray with them regularly and help them to process any challenges or difficulties.

The Trainee would be provided with full-time accommodation, and all meal provision would be catered for. There would also be travel expenses to and from conferences and cluster group. Personal expenses should be provided by the individual.

The Trainee will be expected to take an active role in all the Youth and Children’s work at Haven Church, as well as attending the weekly prayer meeting, Sunday services and leading the Children’s talk during the Church service on a regular basis.
